To qualify for classification, a wine must have been made in at least 12 vintages and/or released 10 – 15 in the case of wines qualifying as Exceptional. Langton’s claim that the classification is completely objective, based on “sale frequency, intensity and sentiment surrounding its place in the market.. Classification VII lists 136 wines divided into three levels. They are Exceptional, Outstanding, and Excellent. Langton’s says the classification, which is updated every four years, is compiled by analyzing the track record of fine wine in the Australian wine auction market, including prices and volume of demand over a long period of time.
